Phtography Workshop-2023.09.03
Under the guidance of our principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan, photographic society teachers in charge Me.T.Subaharan and Mr.V.Rajendran , has organized a training programme for the members of photographic society. It was held today (03.09.23) at our college. Under the presidency of Mrs.Poongulaly Srisangeerthanan(Head, Department of Media Studies,University of Jaffna) , a group of undergraduate students Bewla Parameswaran, M.Sujeevan, S.Sinthu, G.Ilankeeran,P.Dilakshan and Roshani have been invited as the resource persons for this training and did a great training for our members.
G.C.E(A/l) 2002 global Hartleyites has donated an "Inniyam" -26.08.2023
On the request made by the Principal Mr.T.Kalaicelvan, G.C.E(A/l) 2002 global Hartleyites has donated an "Inniyam" for our students on 26th August. Also the teachers who taught the A/l 2002 were felicitated by 2002 A/l students.
"Crysbro Next Champ" programme
Mas.S. Mithunraj has been selected into the "Crysbro Next Champ" programme, a scholarship to prepare talented athletes for international competitions based on past national level achievements.
It is noteworthy that he is the only Tamil student among the 13 selected players.
Training for the members of photographic society 2023.08.14
An initial training for the members of the photographic society was held in our school on 14th August and Mr.Nagaratnam Kugan , Kugan studio Point Pedro was presented as the resource person and gave a valuable training for our students.
Presentation on "Heathy food habits" 2023.08.04
A special presentation on"healthy food habits" was conducted by Siddha Ayurvedic hospital Point Pedro on 4th August at the college auditorium. Siddha Dr. Aingaran was presented and gave valuable information about healthy food habits.
Special Speach-2023.07.25
Dr.Eng.Sivakumar , President HCPPA UK , was invited as the guest speaker for the Tuesday assembly on 25th July and shared about his school days and experience to our students. Also he has handed over a camera , worth 2.5 lakhs, sponsored by HCPPA- UK ,to the photographic society.


Vanimuhunthan Moshikeeran from grade 7 and Abishan from grade 6 secured the first place at Chithambara Olympiad and won chance to visit UK for their awarding ceremony.
Special Speach-2023.07.05
Dr.Thamaraikannan, Engineer-Singapore , was invited to school as a guest speaker for the Tuesday assembly on 5th July, andandandand he delivered a motivational speech to our students.
Canteen building opening
The canteen building, sponsored by HCPPA-UK, was started to function and the upper portion of the building is allocated for practicing fine arts and indoor games.
Health care check-up for the staff - 2023.05.24
A health care camp for the staff to check the non communical diseases was organized and conducted by Base hospital Point Pedro on 24th May, and the staff were checked and advised for their healthy lifestyle.
Awarding function for the students who participated and scored the cut off point, in the Reading project, conducted by Mr.Sundaramoorthy,(Former ADE English and former teacher of Hartlely College) , sponsored by HCPPA-UK branch, held on 2nd May 2023 at the college auditorium. Principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan gave away the certificates to the readers.
Annual Inter House Athletic Meet-04.03.2023
Sports is the celebration of human spirit. It not only inspires the young minds but also teaches good values. After a hiatus of two years due to the lingering fear of Covid 19 pandemic, the college has conducted one of its signature events.
Annual Inter House athletic meet of Hartlely College was held on 4th March 2023 under the patronage of our principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan. Mr.N.Theivendrarajah ( Former Principal of Hartlely College., Provincial Director, National Police Commission-Northern Province) graced this occasion as the chief guest. Past pupils, parents, SDEC members, well-wishers and many people also presented .
To facilitate everyone in this world to see this event, first time in the history, the event was telecasted through the YouTube live streaming, with the sponsorship of HCPPA-UK branch.
2023 meet champion is Thamotharam house. Mrs.Pama Theivendrarajah (Retd Teacher-Uduppiddy Girls' college) gave away the prizes for the winners.
Teachers' Day 2022
The international Teachers' day is annually celebrated on 5th of October with a particular theme.
"The transformation of education begins with teachers" is the theme of this year.
This year the International Teachers'Day was celebrated today (06.10.2022) at our college auditorium. The event was presided by Junior prefect Mas.Anutharshan and our former sectional head Mr.Sivaganeshan was invited as the Chief guest for this event. Principal, President-HCPPA Mr.Murali, SDEC secretary Mr.Nithilavarnan also participated in this event. Teachers were honoured with garlands and headed to the auditorium with band. Many programmes such as solo acting, poem, speeches were done by our teachers.Teachers were honoured by our guest, with the gifts, sponsored by HCPPA.
The stage programmes were ended and the function was continued at the basketball court. Many traditional games such as slow cycling, tug of war, pot breaking , water glass passing were arranged for the teachers and they happily participated on every events. The event was adjourned at 1.30 p.m.
Vani vizha 2022
Navratri is a Hindu festival that spans nine nights and is celebrated every year in the autumn. On the 10 th day, Vijayathasami is celebrated. It is observed to get the blessings of Lord shakthi.
This year, the Navarathri Pooja was celebrated from 26 th of September 2022 to 4th of September 2022 . Every day special Pooja was conducted by the allocated classes with the support of Hindu Association. Under the patronage of our principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan, the Vijayathasami/ Vani vizha of Hartlely College was held today (5th October) at the college auditorium. The event was started with our special Vijayathasami Pooja . Our former sectional head , Mr.Balagengatharan was invited as the guest speaker for this event. Many aesthetic programmes , especially Bajans, songs, dance and speeches were staged by our students and they showed their wonderful talents with the support of our teachers. Navarathri competitions were conducted by the Hindu Association and the prizes for the winners were issued today by our Principal and the sectional heads. . The festival was adjourned at 1.15 p.m .



















Children's Day 2022
International Children's day is annually celebrated on October 1st . This year the children's day was celebrated on 4th of October 2022 at our college auditorium. Our principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan presided the event.
"A better future for every child " is the theme for this year. Based on this theme , our sectional head Mr.Kathiramalai has delivered a special speech for our children. After that traditional games were arranged for the children and they actively participated . Pen and chocolate were issued for every children and sweet meal was given to our children as their lunch. Children enjoyed the whole day actively.

































Smart classrooms opening ceremony - 17.06.2022
Hartley College is proudly announcing the opening of its smart classrooms on 17 th of June 2022. Three classrooms were upgraded as the smart ones with the financial support of the students from GCE (A/L)1999.
Under the patronage of our principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan, the event was started at 9 a.m. Mr.Sathiyabalan (ZDE Vadamaradchy) was invited as the Chief guest. The three smart classrooms were ceremoniously declared open by the chief guest.
The rest of the events were held at the auditorium. The event was graced by the representatives of G.C.E(A/L) 1999 batch , Mr.Sureshkumar (DDE & representative of A/L 1999, )former sectional head Mr.Thavarajah, principal MGHS Mrs.S.Balarani Transferred teachers, past pupils , SDEC members, college staff and students. After the prayers,Principal has delivered his president's speech. Mr.Sureshkumar,the chief guest Mr.Sathiyabalan (ZDE Vadamaradchy) and Mr.Thavarajah (former sectional head) also delivered their speeches. Everyone requested the staff to make the top usage of smart boards. Vote of thanks was delivered by our deputy principal Mr.K.Vanimuhunthan. The event was adjourned with the college anthem at 10.30 a.m .
Student Parliament Election - 2022
To provide an opportunity for students to be involved in practical experience on democracy and its responsibility, the student parliament election is conducted in schools.
The student parliament election 2022 was held on 15 th of June (today). Under the guidance of our principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan, Teachers in charge Mr.Thileepan, Mr.N.Thushyanthan, Mr.Thayananth and Mr.Sriskanthasekaram have functioned as the election committee.
To reduce the usage of papers, save time and keep the accuracy, this time with the support of our ICT teachers Mr.T.Subaharan ,Mr.P.Kajananan and Mr.M.Nitharshan, we have introduced the digital polling system to our school. Students have enthusiastically casted their votes. It is one of the remarkable introduction of our upcoming generations. Principal has appreciated everyone who supported to make this event a success.















Welcoming the new grade 6 (2022)-18.05.2022
Hartley College has wholeheartedly welcomed its new grade 6 students with the blessings of the God. The inauguration function was held under the patronage of our principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan, on 18th of May 2022 at the college auditorium with the presence of the students,parents and limited staff. The inauguration was started at 8 a.m with the address by the principal. Later the new hartleyites were welcomed with flowers, which symbolise the purity, by the grade 7 students. The faces of the freshers lit with the joy and excitement as they begin their new chapter at Hartley college. An evaluation exam in English was conducted for the new students to evaluate their competency level in English.

Prefect Investiture Ceremony was conducted under the Patronage of our Principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan on 19th of April at our college auditorium.
Friendly Cricket Match- 11.04.2022
A friendly cricket match for under 15, between J/Hartley College and H/Namadageswewa Maha Vidyalaya was organized under the programme of community integration, and held at Hartley College ground on 11 th of April.

A seminar on “e-learning” was conducted on 9th of December, for A/L students, for enabling them to access websites for learning purpose. Mr.R.Sritharan (Manager- CRC) was the resource person for this programme.

Seminar on “Selection of Subjects & Career guidance” was conducted for the grade 12 students on 6th of December. Mr.T.Brownisen( Teacher Counselor) was participated as the resource person for this programme.

Farewell function of the former sectional head Mr.Sivaganeshan was conducted on 23rd of December 2021. Due to the prevailing situation of the country school society was unable to conduct the farewell function on his retirement date.
Blood Donation Camp- 17.11.2021
Commemoration and Blood Donation Programme, to commemorate the students who co- died during the educational excursion in 1999 was held on 17th of November. Past pupils and teachers donated blood on this day.

J/Hartley College , conducted its Annual Inter House Athletic Meet on 8th of Feb 2020 under the patronage of our college principal Mr.T.Muhunthan. Mr.Velummayilum Thayanantharajah (Velummayilum Foundation) was invited as the chief guest for this event. The prizes were distributed by the spouse of the chief guest Mrs.Sumithra Thayanantharajah. Thamotharam became the champion this year and Kanapathippillai secured the first runner up and Sherrad secured the second runner up.
Pongal festival-15.01.2020
Pongal festival is celebrated as a thanksgiving occasion to the nature. Pongal festival is celebrated with joy in our school on 15th of Jan 2020 under the guidance of the principal Mr.T.Muhunthan. students prepared Pongal with the support of teachers in the traditional way. It gives opportunity for students to learn about culture and tradition.

Mas.V.Shanujan , participated in the “King of the Ring” Boxing Championship, held in Sweden and secured the second place in international level. To felicitate his achievement, an honouring rally was arranged from 1st mile post junction to school entrance. Divisional Secretariat, Depot-Point Pedro, Banks, Urban Council- Point Pedro, School and many business centres honoured him along the way of the rally. The rally was ended at the school entrance and the honouring ceremony was continued at the school auditorium. The whole event was held under the patronage of the Principal of Hartley College. Mr.R.Kandeepan, old boy & Engineer, MASS holdings was invited as the Chief guest for this event. Also, Mr.Hettiarachchi, the coach of Mas.V.Shanujan was felicitated by the school society.

Commemoration and Blood Donation Programme, to commemorate the students who co- died during the educational excursion in 1999 was held on 28th of November 2019.G.C.E (A/l) 2000 batch students and the doctors from Manthikai Base Hospital co- joined and conducted this event well. College students, Past pupils and teachers donated blood in this event.

Old boy & science writer Mr.Raj Siva,lives in Germany paid his visit to our college and had a valuable discussion with G.C.E.(A/L) Science students. This event was presided by the Principal of the college . Mr.Raj Siva gave the clear explanation for the questions raised by the students in different areas including quantum physics, astro physics, Scientific business& Social Science.
08.11.2019 Oli Vizha
Jesus Christ was born as a light to eradicate the darkness of people’s mind. The oli vizha was celebrated at our college auditorium. Rev.Javil (Pastor – Methodist Mission) and Rev.Alakarajah had delivered their Christmas messages to everyone at our College. Speech, Musical drama and many other religious praogrammes were staged by our boys. The celebration came to end with the arrival of Santa.

The felicitation ceremony for the National level winners was held at our college auditorium. Mr.Y.Raveendran (ZDE- Vadamaradchy) was invited as the chief- guest for this event and the winners Mas.S.Mithunraj, Mas.V.Sanujan, Mas.S.Ajai and Mas.A.Sujistan were honoured by the school society.

Mas.A.Sujistan won the fourth place in put shot by throwing 13.99m at the Natinal Level Athletic meet for school students
31.10.2019 National Level Achievement in Athletics
Mas.S.Mithunraj won the first place and received the gold medal in the event- put shot by throwing 15.95m at the National Level Athletic meet for school students. Also he has broken the the record which was made by Mas.Bandara (15.67m) in 2018 in the same event.
20.10.2019 Educational Exhibition
A grand level Educational exhibition was organized and conducted from 20th of October to 21st of October 2019. Mr.Y.Raveendran (ZDE- Vadamaradchy) and Mr.K.ASivanarulrajah (Assistant Director of Education for Science – Northern Province) were invited as the Chief guest and the exhibition was inaugurated by them on 20th of October 2019. Not only Our College students, but also neighbouring school students, parents and public came to see the exhibition and received the full benefits from it.
Skeleton dance, Sail boat, hanging bridge, technological inventions, ICT, orchestra , Kolu, word games, Kolu, Calvarari, ghost house, Srilankan map, Pond system, Modern town, dinosaurs, mathematical techniques, and many other valuable exhibits were exhibited by the students with the full support of teachers. Hard work and dedication of the Students and the teachers made this event a marvelous success.
19.10.2019 Annual Prize Giving & College Day
Annual Prize giving & College Day were held at our College Auditorium.College Day was organized under the patronage of HCPPA Parent Body President and the Prize Giving was held under the patronage of our Collegepprincipal Mr.T.Muhunthan. Mr.K.Premakkanthan (Aadditional Provincial Director Of Education- Northern Province) was invited as the Chief –guest for this event. Students who had achieved in different fields were honoured with valuable prizes. Many cultural events were staged by our students on this day.
11.10.2019 Opening Ceremony of Smart Classrooms
Grade 6E & Grade 6A classrooms were upgraded as SMART classrooms to improve the learning pattern of the students to face the future world effectively. At 10.30 a.m , Grade 6E classroom was declared open by Mr.Sivagnanasothy (Secretary- Ministry of National Integration & Reconcilliation). At 12.30 a.m , Grade 6A SMART classroom was ceremonially declared open by Mr.V.Thayanantharajah, VelumMylum Foundation.
08/10/2019 Vani Vizha
The Hindus around the globe observe the Navarathri Festival to pay reverence to the deity of knowledge. The last day of the Navarathri, our College celebrated “vani vizha’ festival at our College auditorium. Former Sectional Head Mr.A.Mahendrarajah attended as the guest speaker of this event and addressed to the students. Principal & Deputy Principal also delivered their special speeches to the students. Many aesthetical programmes were staged by our boys.
07.10.2019 Teachers’ Day
The annual Teachers’ Day was organized and conducted by the students of HC. Former teacher & Librarian Mr.P.Raguvaran attended as the chief-guest for this event. Representatives of HCPPA, SDC members & Parents also participated in this event. Cultural events were held at the auditorium. In the afternoon,traditional games such as breaking the clay pots (traditional game of Tamils), slow cycling, tug of war and ball passing were played among teachers at our college green.

The Assistant prefect Investiture ceremony was conducted at the weekly assembly at the school auditorium. The elected students were conferred with badges by our College Principal Mr.T.Muhunthan. Children’s day also celebrated on this day with special speeches on the theme of children’s duties and rights. The speeches were delivered by Principal & Teacher s of Hartley College.

e-library of Hartley college was declared open by our school Librarian & teacher Mr.P.Raguvaran. HCPPA Canada & UK donated ten tablets for the e-library. 04.09.2019 - Retirement
Maths teacher & Sectional head Mr.A.Mahendrarajah got his retirement from his untiring service of 18 years at Hartley College. The farewell function was held on this day to honour his service rended to the school society.
The General Assembly of Tuesdays for the second term was abandoned due to unstable conditions that prevailed in the country. The first Assembly for the second term was held on 09-07-2019 at the auditorium. The Principal presided at the assembly, special speeches were delivered by a teacher and a student and the prizes and certificates were issued to the students who had excelled in the Provincial Level Athletic Meet.
Provincial Level Tamil Day Competitions
In the Provincial Level Tamil Day Competitions held at J/ Vembady Girls’ College on 06-07-2019, our students won the 01st place in Group Singing - Group II and Mast. P. Saranithan won the 01st place in singing and describing the song (Pavothal) - Group II. Further, Mast. M. Aagash got the 03rd place in individual singing - Group IV.
Seminar on Eradication of Drugs
To mark the Eradication of Drugs Week, an awareness programme was held at our College auditorium. It was jointly conducted by the Divisional Secretariat - Point Pedro, Police - Point Pedro and Public Health inspector (PHI) - Point Pedro. In addition to this, a video clip related to road safety was shown and explained for the students.
The Provincial Level Athletic Meet
The twelfth athletic meet among the schools in the Northern Province was held at Thuraiyappa Stadium from 04-07-2019 to 08-07-2019. In this breathtaking event, our College grabbed 05 GOLD Medals, 04 SILVER Medals and 07 BRONZE Medals. Further, we got 02 - 04th places, 01 - 05th place and 02 - 06th places.

General Information Technology online practical examination conducted by the Computer Centre of the Vadamaradchy Zone was held in our College computer laboratory on the 10th, 11th, and 12th of July 2019. 161 students of our College had participated in the above examination.
Information Communication Technology Competitions
Provincial Level - 29, 30.06.2019
The final competition of Yarl Geek Challenge Season 8 - Junior was conducted by Yarl IT Hub with the collaboration of the Provincial Department of Education. In this final competition, in the section of IOT Hardware Application Development, Our ‘Hartley Smart’ team (Grade 12 - Mast. T. Rajinthan, Mast. S. Sanjajan and Mast. U. Jananan) designed an application named ‘Smart Home’ to monitor and control our homes through mobile phones. And this system secured the first place in the Provincial Level.
Information Communication Technology Competitions
Zonal Level - 21, 24, 25, 26.06.2019
In the Zonal level finals of the above competition, the students representing our school from Grade 06 to 13 participated in 16 sections. Out of 16 teams, 08 teams were able to secure the 1st place, 02 teams got the second place and 04 more teams were able to get the 3rd place.
- In ICT Quiz Competition, Grade 06 and 07 were placed the 01st while Grade 08 was placed 02nd and 03rd
- In Presentation Competition, Grade 07 got the 02nd place and Grade 08 and 09 got the 3rd place each.
- In Scratch Programming Competition, Grade 06 secured the 01st place, Grade 07 got the 03rd place, Grade 08 captured the 01st place and Grade 09 got the 03rd

2019.07.02 - Zonal Level all island Karnatic Music competitions
In the Zonal Level all island Karnatic Music competitions, our students won in all the three events: Folk Song, Philosophical Song and Musical Concert.
Morning Keep Fit programme was restarted
The morning Keep Fit programme for students was temporarily stopped due to unavoidable situations of the country. This programme was restarted on 01st July 2019. The students were very excited to engage in the activity.
2019.06.29 - Provincial Level Table Tennis tournament
In the Provincial Level Table Tennis tournament held on 29th June 2019 at Jaffna Central College, our school under 20 table tennis team was able to get the fourth place.

In the Provincial Level Football tournament held on 17th, 18th, 19th June 2019 at Adamban Divisional Secretariat, our school under 16 football team was placed fourth at the end of the tournament.

The opening of the new building for the Technological Laboratory was held on 12th June 2019 with the cultural and traditional events. The Principal, teachers and students attended the function.

In the Provincial Level Chess competitions held on 01/06/2019 and 02/06/2019 at Kokkuvil Hindu College, our school under 17 chess team secured the first runner up and under 20 chess team became the champion of the year.

Our Chief Guest was Mr. Muthucumarasamy Ravindrakumar, Retired Director, Sri Lanka Customs. Thamotharam House became the CHAMPION this year, Paulpillai House secured the first runner up and Kanapathippillai House got the second runner up.

The Foundation for a new building-2018.01.18
The foundation for a new building next to the library was laid on the 18th of January 2018. Mast.S.Thuvarakan,the national first rank holder in Physical Science Stream for the year 2017, laid the foundation for it. zonal Director, the Principal, teachers, students and well-wishers participated in it.
Felicitation ceremony-2018.01.03
A felicitation ceremony was conducted on the 3rd January 2018 to honour Mas.Sritharan Thuvarakan for obtaining the 1stRank in National level in Mathematics field. The event was presided by the Principal in the presence of the Provincial Director of Education Mr.S.Uthayakumar, Zonal Director of Education Mr.S.Nanthakumar, Prof.M.Nadarajasundaram, Prof.S.Srisatkunarasa, Secretary SDC Mr.A.Subramanium and the Parents of the student. With the Blessing speeches made by the Guests, A medal and a shield were awarded with cash present to honour his great achievements. Suraksha Insurance Scheme Inauguration-07.12.2017
The Suraksha Insurance inauguration was held on the 7th December 2017 to introduce the scheme of the insurance to the students. It was held in the presence of the parents and explanation of the benefits was given. A speech was given by the Secretary S.D.C Mr.Sivasubramaniam on behalf of the parents.
Retirement– Mr.S.Thavarajah-30.11.2017
Our Sectional Head Mr.S.Thavarajah has got his retirement from his untiring service of 22 years in Hartley College on the 30th November 2017. A farewell function was held at that day to honour his services rendered to the school community.
Commemoration Day 17.11.2017
The commemoration of the Hartleyites who co-died under tragic circumstances during an educational excursion during the year 1999, was held on the 17th of November 2017 at the college Auditorium. Scholarships were awarded to the students from Hartley College and the neighbouring schools. A blood donation was organized to mark the event.
48th SIR JOHN TARBAT JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP -14.11.2017
We are with very much pleasure in informing you about the Record and performances made our students in the National Level 48th Sir John Tarbat Junior Championship 2017 held in the Diyakama Rajapaksha Stadium on the 8th, 9th, and 10th of November 2017. The stage 1 selection was held among the North, North Central and North western provinces on the 16th and 17th of June 2017 at Royal College Grounds, Polonnaruwa and 3 of our students were selected.
In the National level Our Under 15 Boys won the medals in Discus, Shot put and Javelin throw. The details are as follows.

A special Assembly was held to honour the nationalists on the 14th November 2017 in the presence of Zonal Director of Education Mr.S.Nanthakumar. We the college Community congratulate the nationalists along with the coach Mr.V.Harikaran, sports officer. HCPPA Colombo Branch awarded Rs 5000/= for each of the Nationalists and we are very much thankful to them for the immense support and motivation to the students.

Annual Ozhi Vizha -08.11.2017
The annual ‘Ozhi Vizha’ festival was celebrated in the school auditorium on the 8th November 2017. Superintendent, Ministry Point Pedro, Kaddiveli Circuit Rev.D.Alagarajah and Parish Priest, Manatkadu Rev.S.Duek vinson had given the Christmas messages. All the students participated in this festival. Many colourful programmes were staged by the students. The Principal, guests and others gave speeches. The function ended up with the arrival of santo.

‘Vani Vizha festival was celebrated by the College on 11th October 2017. The religious observances were followed by the cultural programmes performed by the students. Principal of Puttalai Maha Vidyalayam Mr.S.Sivanathan attended the function as a Guest speaker. Speeches which won the first place in the competition, Villupattu “Seetha Kalyanam”, Drama, ‘Oththikai’ and a Musical Programme were some of them. A prize giving was also held to appreciate the students who performed well in the ‘Navarathri Vizha’ competitions.

The Children’s day celebration was held on the 3rd October 2017 at the College Auditorium. A special Speech was delivered at the assembly and the children were given with a small gifts.
04.10.2017 Visit of Iyan karan
Ian Kiru Karan, an old boy and the sponsor of the College Hostel, visited school along with his wife Mrs.Babara Karan and his son in the evening at about 2.00pm. He was welcomed by the Principal and the school community. A meeting was arranged with the staff and the Principal and the Guest made short memorable speeches. The meeting came to an end with a party.

10.10.2017 Teachers’ Day - 2017
Teachers’ Day - 2017 was celebrated traditionally by the students of our College and it was sponsored by Mr.M.Thiruneelakandan. Mr.S.Thangarajah, former Chemistry teacher was the Chief Guest of this function. A speech was delivered by him on the service of teachers. Principal, all the students, teachers, former teachers and sectional heads and well-wishers participated in it. In the afternoon, traditional sports events such as the slow cycling, tug of war, breaking of the Muddi ( A tamil cultural event) and a ball passing event were held among the teachers. The function was ended with the lunch.

P.Vishnu won the silver medal in Boxing in Light weight (60-64)Kg in Under 20 Boys.
Global Hartleyites Day & Get-together

Global Hartleyites Day functions had been started from 03rd september evening with friendly cricket match between Hartley students and Past Pupils. The following day, Volley ball matchess and soccer conducted.
On the 5th september 2017,cultural programmes were conducted at the college Auditorium in the present of the Past Pupils and college community.It was started by 1o clock in the evening and ended up by 10 Pm.Various cultural programmes such as Nathaswaram Fusion, Nattu Koothu, Nartiya Nadagam, debate, speaches, songs and so on. The past distinguished teachers and Hartleyites were honoured at this function.
On the 6th september A procession was started at the Arthiyadi Pillaiyar temple at 8.30 a.m with the prayers. All the Hartleyites,staff,Parents and well-wishers joined in the procession.At the end of procession on assembly was organized with hoisting flags in the college. Speaches were delivered at the assembley. Thereafter workshops were organized in various topics to the Advanced Level students. Snacks and lunches were provided at this function.

Today a special assembly was held at the school Auditorium to felicitate Mr.C.Tharmalingam former principal J/Puttalai M.V, who served during the period when Hartley was functioning in Puttalai M.V due to the internal war crisis. The special assembly was organized at the request of the former principal of Hartley College served during this period , Mr.P.Balasingam. The introduction speech was given by Mr.S.Sivasithamparam former principal of Vigneswara College and a distinguished Past Pupil of Hartley College. Followed by his speech Mr.C.Tharmalingam delivered his address at the assembly.

The Social Science Union of the College launched the Magazine - Vazhi - 06 after eight years on 21st March 2017. The Chief Guest of the function was Mr. S. Pushpalingam, The Zonal Director of Education, Vadamaradchy. The first copy of the Magazine was received by the retired teacher Mr. K. Balagengatharan. National Integration and Reconciliation Programme at Hartley College
A programme on the theme of National Integration and Reconciliation was held in our school auditorium on 16th January 2017 from 11.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. The distinguished guests; Hon. A.H.M. Fouzie (State Minister), Harsha de Silva (Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs), Sivagnanasothy (Secretary, Ministry of National Integration and Reconciliation), Additional Government Agent (Jaffna) and others participated in it. The guests, the school staff and all the students gave the declaration of the National Integration and Reconciliation.
Thai Pongal at Hartley College
The “Thai Pongal” festival of our school for this year was celebrated on 16th January 2017 by Grade 06 students. Grade 07 students were welcomed and ‘Pongal’ was given to all of them. Both grades happily participated in this cultural festival.

Ian Kiru Karan, an old boy and the sponsor of the College Hostel, visited school in the evening. He was welcomed by the Principal and the school community. The Principal, The Chief Guest and others made memorable speeches. The meeting came to an end with a party.
Eye Camp
An ‘Eye Camp’ was held in the morning in school for school children by a team of doctors from France/ Germany. 100 students were checked and they were given necessary advice.
Retirement
Mr. N. Vijayakumar, who had been the Science teacher and the Sectional Head for Gr. 10 and 11 got his retirement after serving the school for 16 years.
Stone Foundation laying
Stone Foundation laying’ function was held in our school for classrooms and Principal’s quarters. The school community participated in it.
Students’ parliament
The inaugural meeting of students’ parliament was held in the auditorium at about 11.00 a.m. The Principal presided the meeting. Deputy Principal, teachers-in-charge and the selected students participated in this meeting. All the ministers and the members took oath in front of the Principal and others.
Navarathri Vizha
Navarathri Vizha’ festival was celebrated by the College on 11th October 2016. The religious observances were followed by the cultural programmes performed by the students and teachers - Drama, ‘Kavi Arangam’ Musical Programme were some of them. A prize giving was also held to appreciate the students who performed well in the ‘Navarathri Vizha’ competitions.

Teachers’ Day - 2016 was celebrated by the students of our College and it was sponsored by Mr. Neelakandan. Mr.Balendra, former Maths teacher and sectional head was the Chief Guest of this function. A speech was delivered by him on the service of teachers. Principal, all the students, teachers, former teachers and sectional heads and well wishers participated in it. In the afternoon, a friendly cricket match was played between the teachers’ team and the prefects’ team.

Retirement
Mr. J. Rajaratnam, who served as the assistant librarian for sixteen years (16) of our college library got his retirement on 20th September 2016.

The functions of College Day and Prize Giving Day were held in the College on the 2nd July 2016. The College Day was organized under the patronage of the HCPPA Parent Body President Mr.N.Kanthathasan and the Prize Giving Day was held under the patronage of the Principal Mr.T.Muhunthan. Anti Narcotic Day Awareness Programme.
The Anti Narcotic Day Awareness Programme has been organized at the college on the 30th May 2016. Mrs. Bamini Senthooran, Counseling Officer, Divisional Secretariat, Point Pedro has attended the seminar as a resource person. National Anti Narcotic Controlling Board Officer Mr. Edwin Roger also gave his address at the seminar. In this seminar Child Rights Development Officers, Child Protection Officers also participated. Point Pedro Divisional Secretariat and Point Pedro Police Station have organized this programme.
Yarl Geek Challenge Season 5 Junior Final
With the collaboration of Northern Provincial Education Department, The Yarl IT Hub conducted the Yarl Geek Challenge 5 - Junior - IT competition. Our College team named "Hartley Mobile" won the 1st place in the provincial level under the category of Mobile App Development. The product is Office Mode

Mas.Vimalrajan Sanjith won the 1st place in Provincial level Tamil Day competition in Individual song Division IV. A Group song has secured the 1st place DivisionaI and a group song has secured the 2nd place DivisionII in Provincial Level Tamil Day competitions. The first place of the events will be participated in the National Level Tamil Day competitions. Our college Music teacher Mr.A.Krishnananthan trained the students to achieve these performances.
